The Virgin Mary Brings the Christ Child to St. Stanislaus Kostka

1911
Stained glass
Chapel of the Invention of the Cross, Dillingen an der Donau, Germany

The artist has chosen an Edenic setting although according to Ubaldi Mary brought the child while the saint was ill.

The inscription above, EGO PULCHRAE DILECTIONIS, "I am the mother of fair love," is from Ecclesiasticus (Sirach) 24:24. In the context wisdom is praising herself, but Catholic art applies it to Mary. The one below, D. STANISLAUS CULTA EXIMUS BMV refers to Stanislaus: "St. Stanislaus, exemplary devotee of the Blessed Virgin Mary."
